To become High King of all Ireland, you need to navigate a web of shifting alliances, outmaneuver your enemies, and grab history by the reins. The success of the historical Brian Boru rested on three pillars: his victories against the Vikings, the favor he managed to garner with the Church, and the alliances he forged through political marriages. This became the foundation of the game, with each pillar becoming a suit in the trick-taking that forms the core of the mechanisms. Win a trick and you gain influence in a town, which, in turn, gains you majorities in the regions; if you lose the trick, however (deliberately or otherwise), you instead take an action corresponding to the suit of the card. The lovely young Constance Bonancieux is the Seamstress to the Queen and has Her Majesty’s every confidence. She is suspected by Cardinal Richelieu of indulging in treasonous activities, including acting as go between in the affair the Queen is believed to be having with The Duke of Buckingham, the Prime Minister of England. Last year at Barracks Battles @ DieCon Constance was apprehended by the Cardinal’s forces near the Inn at Saint Francios and they have taken her to the Convent of the Sisters of Perpetual Responsibility for safe keeping until she can be tried and then certainly hanged. Surely this will discredit the Queen in the eyes of the King and the Royal Court, further enhancing the position of Cardinal Richelieu. This may very well be the last chance that D’Artagnan and the King’s Musketeers have to save young Constance who they know to be innocent of these trumped up charges and get her away to safety. The plan is simple, defeat the Red Guard and get Constances away from the convent to a ship waiting to take her to England until her case can be proven to the court. | |

The surprise attacks were initially successful with one escort carrier sunk and dozens of other vessels damaged. The U.S. struggled to repel the attacks. The naval brass decided to hit the Kamikaze at their source. They met his army near the town of Asculum. Pyrrhus once again placed a river between him and the Romans, but this time the woods and rough terrain on the banks made it difficult for him to use his cavalry effectively. The Romans pushed him back onto the plains behind, but nightfall halted them. Now, both sides draw up for a stand up fight on the plains. Miniature scale: 28mm |
